We Are Called to Glory Over Glamor
Fergie wrote a song called, “Glamorous,” and ever since, I’ve wondered what it would be like to live a life full of those champagne wishes and caviar dreams like Ludacris raps about in between her spelling out G-L-A-M-O-R-O-U-S.I’ve lived way too many moments caught up in what if and never enough. I’ve struggled to be content and dreamt of bigger houses and longer vacations. I have believed the lie that fame and fortune were the answers to all my problems.But glory.God reminded me of glory. He gently turned my face upward to lock eyes with Him and with Heaven. He said, “Don’t forget that those things fade and pass, but the world I have waiting for you never does. Glory outweighs glamor.”And so I have to write it out almost daily and pray for eyes that see what He sees so my focus becomes like His. I have to take a step back when I begin to run the wrong race. I have to take this life for what it is -- a vapor, a breath.“How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone.” James 4:14 (NLT)Our houses don’t make us holy and our vacations don’t make us worthy. The jobs we work are not our worth and the clothes we wear do not complete us.We go from glory to glory when we live for Christ and pour our hearts into living out His Great Commission -- to make Him known to everyone we know. Spending all our time and energy building up empires that moths will destroy and thieves will steal is not how our Father intended us to live.I’m not telling you to quit your job and sell all your belongings and live in a tent. We need jobs to provide for our families and our homes serve as a resting place for us and those we love. God wants us to eat, drink, and be merry! He wants us to enjoy the earth He created. But He does not want us to become so consumed with the riches of this life that we forget our mission of storing up treasures for the next one.His vision for us one of delayed rewards rather than instant gratification, but He sure does give us glimpses of those gifts. You see an image of Heaven when you forgive. You feel God’s love when you help a brother or sister. You know your worth when you read His Word.Choosing to chase glory over glamor might not always look fun on your Instagram feed, but it fills your heart and pleases your Dad.“But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.” 2 Corinthians 3:18 (KJV)The God of more is the God we serve. More glory, more goodness, more grace.We can be women who live glorious lives every day in our homes, in our relationships, at our offices, and at the grocery store. We don’t have to wait on a title or a position to experience everyday glory -- we have been named a “royal priesthood” by God, so that glory is already glamorous to Him.
