Savannah, GA Getaway Guide
I have a list of places I want to write about for you, and I can't think of a better one to kick these getaway guides off with than Savannah, GA!I almost nixed the idea of writing these guides because I'm not a lifestyle blogger and I don't get to travel as much as I'd like, but then I remembered there are people like me out there who are on a budget and love to visit fun places without spending a fortune!I went to Savannah, GA almost two years ago on my bachelorette trip (time flies!) and it was an absolute DREAM. It is a gorgeous city with so much to offer. I wouldn't have wanted to spend my bachelorette weekend anywhere else and my girls had a blast too!We stayed at the PERFECT house in The Downtown Savannah Historic District. I felt like I was in a movie the entire time. There are so many rooms and a gorgeous white piano in the living room that served as a perfect setup for the lingerie party the girls threw! You can feel the history throughout the home and the character is in every nook and cranny. Here's the link to book this gem. After you get settled into your house for the weekend, make your first stop at Savannah's Candy Kitchen to stock up on treats for your stay. And then go ahead and make it your last stop too because you'll want to take some snacks back home. The shop is right beside the Savannah River. The waterfront view and the atmosphere of the candy store make for a must on your visit!
Don't forget to walk up and down the river and get your glamor shot with that gorgeous view!
My VERY favorite stop in all of Savannah was The Paris Market. I was told I had to put it at the top of my list, and I quickly realized why! You need to make sure you take some time to wonder through the shop, upstairs and downstairs, and grab a cappuccino. I bought that gorgeous plate as a souvenir and could have easily spent my entire paycheck on all the little trinkets and dishes. When you leave The Paris Market, you won't be too far from the famous Forsyth Park. The scenery is breathtaking and it's the perfect spot to get that iconic "Savannah picture" with your crew. But you can honestly snap a scenic picture on any street because they are all stunning. The trees paint a picture on every turn, so be sure to put your phone or camera down and soak it in on your drive. Oh guys. My FAVORITE places to see in every single city I visit are cathedrals. (I know, Annie F. Downs says the same thing and I swear I didn't copy her. We are just twin souls.) I actually sobbed inside the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Savannah. It was the week before Holy Week and as I walked up and down the cathedral, the pictures that depicted the death and resurrection of my Jesus hit me so hard. I loved how he met me right there on my bachelorette trip and reminded me He always goes with me. Make sure you take time to walk through the cathedral, pray, and soak it all in. This particular cathedral is one of the most lovely I've ever seen.I would HIGHLY recommend spending an entire day on Tybee Island. It is one of the prettier beaches I've ever visited. The white sand and the views make for a really relaxing day. There are restaurants all over the island, so don't even worry about packing lunch! Grab food, drinks, ice cream, etc. all up and down the strip that leads to the beach. The drive from Downtown Savannah to Tybee Island is only 30 minutes and totally worth it. While you're on the island, go check out Tybee Island Lighthouse, Georgia's oldest and tallest lighthouse! You can get tickets to the museum or just do what we did and look from afar! Such a neat spot. Before or after the beach, be sure to go to Wormsloe Historic Site. We may or may not have arrived late and snuck in the gate only to be greeted by a guard letting us know we had to leave immediately. But we got our picture! That's all that counts on a bachelorette trip, right?Wormsloe really is one of those places you can't leave Savannah without seeing. What a view. You can also make buy a ticket to see the entire historic site or attend the events they hold.I haven't talked a ton about food because I really didn't take too many pictures of the places we ate! That's out of the norm because I'm SUCH a foodie. But one of the best meals we had was at The Olde Pink House. You'll definitely want to save up to splurge on this meal, but it's so worth it. The space is gorgeous and the food is to-die-for.
Other great places to eat in Savannah:
The Collins Quarter
Vic's on the River
The Public Kitchen & Bar
